Define the client's priority and non-negotiables first. Normalize contract differences, evaluate issuer strength and service, then disclose why the recommended carrier wins on that metric and where it loses.
Build an honest scorecard
For an annuity, compare guaranteed income, accessible value, surrender schedule, crediting limits, riders, and issuer strength. For LTC, compare benefit triggers, inflation, elimination period, care settings, premium design, and underwriting fit.
Do not let the illustration or premium become the whole score because it is the easiest number to display.
Show the losing columns
A recommendation becomes more credible when you state where another option is better. The client is not asking you to find a flawless product. They are asking you to make the tradeoff visible.
- One carrier recommended to every client
- Compensation absent from the comparison
- Carrier strength reduced to one unexplained letter
Do not declare a winner until the client defines the race.
